ESG methods

POSE® 4.0

folds are pulled into the stomach, a suture is inserted and fixated with an anchor on each side, repeated 8-14 times sutured in a special direction from the lower stomach upwards reduces the stomach volume

inserts 5-8 nickel-free sutures with 8-12 stitches each to fold the stomach (with OverStitch™ material) – unique suture patterns with an innovative safety concept form an even and continuous sleeve, most similar to a gastric sleeve

Stomach balloon

is free-moving within the stomach and fills it for 6-12 months

What is an endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty?

modern minimally invasive and protecting weight loss procedure: without any scars and by far fewer complications and risks than surgical intervention, instead the suturing device brings down into the stomach with a flexible gastroscope and the endoscopist sutures the folds of the stomach together to reduce the size of the stomach

suitable when open surgery is not possible and for any type of revision, provides lasting appetite reduction; and because the procedure is minimally invasive, the risk of complications is significantly reduced and allows you to resume your daily activities quickly.

can be used for relevant overweight (BMI 27+) typically after diet, exercises etc. haven’t had sufficient or sustained effect; this method leads to significant weight loss (up to 50kg within the first 12 months) due to a different metabolism and limited food quantity

like other weight loss procedures, self-commitment for a healthier lifestyle and changing habits is needed in combination with regular and professional guidance for permanent healthier nutrition (especially with small portions) to ensure the long-term success of the ESG

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

the innovative developed approach for weight loss is exclusive performed by Endo-Docs, the success rate increases in study settings, nutrition advice and tight follow-up is included

endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty / operation (ESG) and Endosleeve are synonymous terms, the most common variants are

the POSE® procedure: offers the opportunity to insert single sutures through 1-2 bigger stomach folds, tighten them with visible anchors on each side and suture ends inside the remaining stomach [shown in the transverse stomach illustration POSE 4.0]

and with the OverStitch™ material it’s possible to perform an individual smooth and slim endosleeve with longer sutures, narrow stitches and tight stomach folds underneath, the needle and a small anchor can be inserted into the folds underneath [shown in the transverse stomach illustration SlimSleeve]

is a new distinct suturing variant (performed with OverStitch™ material and certain other different settings) with better safety, protection and durability than other ESG,  supervised by associated studies

treatment is

  • Standardized
  • Low-complicated
  • Innovative and
  • Minimally invasive

POSE 4.0 combines the advantages and achievements of the previous versions POSE 2 and 3.0 MEGAplication: larger sections of the stomach are covered and reduced as evenly as possible with an innovative stitch direction, data are also collected in a study design

gastric balloon from 3.500 EUR and ESG from 10.000 EUR, health insurance eventually reimburse costs after prior specialised treatment and assessment, besides that you can claim a part back by tax refund as an extraordenary charge

YES, the procedure takes about one hour (balloon 20 min.) and after recovery you will be discharged from anaesthesia after adequate monitoring, usually after 2(-4) hours (balloon 1 hour)

with the use of special techniques, the procedure is very protecting and typically you will have decreasing symptoms within the first three days, so that you’re back on yout earlier level after short reconvalescence according to your general condition

compared to open surgery, there are no reports of life-threatening complications or risks far, the complication rate is <1% overall

like open surgery, ESG is performed under general anaesthesia by an experienced anaesthesiologist including ‘single shot’ antibiotics

with maximum precautions, the procedure is performed extra gentle using special techniques and application (can be explained and further elaborated by personal contact) which results in a significantly better post-op course

basically, the procedure and reduction is performed according to your request (typically 70-85%), the result is almost likely to open surgery (gastric sleeve), but without scars and with a reservoir left at the top

the upper stomach area (fundus) is retained as a small reservoir, as the aim of endoscopic gastric reduction is to delay gastric emptying (in contrast to operative gastric sleeve surgery)

argon plasma coagulation (APC) can be used to obliterate the so-called ghrelin receptors in the roof of the stomach (fundus) with the aim of achieving [greater] weight loss through more satiety, but there is a significant risk of perforation and it usually requires lifelong dietary supplementation (see below)

no self-dissolving sutures are used, these sutures can remain in the body forever without any problems

due to the remaining stomach folds underneath the new endosleeve, digestive waves can be felt at the beginning and usually fade away short afterwards, can occur mild again during the start of nutrition and  contribute to small food portions

as there is no large internal scar (as with open surgery), you can and should gradually drink and eat small portions again and give the stomach some time to grow together in order to the best result possibe

most important are small fluid and nutrition portions in alternation, also on the long run

the diet is oriented towards open surgery, but without supplementation of e.g. vitamins and minerals

NO:  because of the continued function of the top of the stomach (fundus region), you won’t get into deficiencies afterwards and won’t need (lifelong) medical treatment (e.g. infusions).

can be used during the follow-up also in combination with a procedure to reduce appetite and increase weight loss
